Ruth Tomalin

British/Irish author and poet. Born in 1919 in Kilkenny, Ireland, but was brought up on the Sussex/Hampshire border in England. Her father, as well as being a gardener was also a writer. Ms. Tomalin studied journalism, worked on the land, in stables, and as a reporter. She always loved the countryside and animals and spent much of her spare time watching wildlife. Her books and poetry reflect this interest and knowledge. She wrote a number of books for children, including one pony story for younger readers, plus adult novels, verse, autobiographical writings and other non-fiction. She also wrote under the name Ruth Leaver.
